Jonathan became counsel to Geisler & Gabriele after spending 7 years in private practice specializing in real estate and litigation. He began his career at the largest law firm on long Island before joining Schiavetti, Geisler, et al in 1994 where he represented physicians, physician practices and large health care institutions. After leaving Schiavetti in 1998, Jonathan’s client’s began utilizing his experience in real estate, which he honed as both a consultant and an investor beginning in college. Jonathan has represented individual, corporate and institutional clients and lenders in all aspects of real estate including the purchase, sale, lease and development of residential and commercial properties throughout New York State and has worked with lenders in aspects of financing including residential and commercial financing, foreclosure and loss mitigation. From his work with real estate professionals, developers and lenders, Mr. Somerstein has utilized his litigation skills to zealously represent his clients in all aspects of commercial litigation arising from real estate, commercial and general business matters. Mr. Somerstein also represents commercial landlords and tenants in all aspects of lease negotiations, development and zoning and land use issues. Utilizing his knowledge of healthcare law and physician and hospital practices, Mr. Somerstein has also successfully represented numerous office practices in the negotiation of employment, insurance, real estate and professional issues.
A lawyer and an economist, Mr. Somerstein received his degree in Economics from Vassar College in 1989 and his law degree from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1992.
